Hiring Opportunities

We are currently looking to fill a few positions in our shop! We are currently looking for:

Floral Assistant 
Part time (Minimum 24hrs/week)
Availability: Evenings, weekends (with increased hours over holiday and busy season)

A floral assistant is responsible for the completion of whatever tasks that are assigned for the work day, working as a support for the rest of the staff. 
Essential duties and responsibilities would include:
  • Answering phones, processing orders, and waiting on customers
  • Unpacking and processing shipments
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of storefront and all fridges
  • Packing deliveries
  • Washing vases and  buckets regularly
  • Watering plants in the storefront
  • Picking up stock from wholesale and shipping depots
  • Working hard and contributing to the team!
No experience is necessary, but is an asset. We require strong interpersonal skills and the ability to multitask. All applicants should have the ability to read and write correspondence including information that is related to any floral subject matter. They must be able to communicate in order to receive and relay the correct information to the floral designers and customers.
This is a fast paced environment and those applying should be able to take initiative, think on their feet, meet deadlines, and work efficiently as part of a team.
Other requirements include:
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

 

Floral Designer
Hours: 24-40hrs/week
Availability: Evenings, weekends (with increased hours over holiday and busy season)

A floral designer is responsible for the design of daily orders, assisting customers in the store, answering the phones and creating attractive floral designs for the cooler.
Essential duties and responsibilities would include:

  • Creating floral designs to be put on display in the storefront
  • Filling orders and preparing flowers to be sold
  • Packing deliveries
  • Cleaning, cutting, and organizing flowers to be put in the cooler
  • Watering plants in the storefront
  • Maintaining an overall level of cleanliness of the store and workspaces
  • Creating visual displays, changing and “beautifying” the shop to attract customers
  • Answering phones, processing orders, and waiting on customers
  • Working hard and contributing to the team!
Knowledge of current floral trends and a keen eye for floral design are required. Post-secondary floral education and certifications would be considered an asset.
We require strong interpersonal skills and the ability to multitask.

They must be able to communicate in order to receive and relay the correct information to the floral designers and customers.

Event Coordinator
Full time: 40hrs/week
Availability: Evenings, weekends (with increased hours over holiday and busy seasons)

The Event Coordinator is responsible for working with corporate clients to plan and coordinate their event florals. They are responsible as well for creating opportunities to attract clients to Academy Florist.
Essential duties and responsibilities would include:
  • Consult with clients to present price quotes, create a flower plan and receive deposits
  • Follow up with clients by on-going communication
  • Set up and deliver event flowers
  • Assist the Wedding Consultant with wedding set ups and deliveries
  • Office tasks such as phone calls, processing orders, emails, taking product photos, unpacking boxes, keeping the store tidy and organized
  • Contribute to day to day operation of the shop
  • Relay flower lists to buyer
  • Create preferred vendor relationships
  • Invoice and receive deposits from clients
  • Create flower mock-ups with clients
  • Look at new advertising opportunities
  • Work alongside with Wedding Consultant to source, collect and set aside rentals and sold items
  • Work hard and contribute to the team!
Completion of high school/equivalent and one to two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience are required.
Experience with flowers and event design, as well as a strong knowledge of styles and trends are required.
Post-secondary floral education and certifications would be considered an asset.
